A Shower Built to Never Leak — Properly Waterproofed,Precisely Tiled, Finished to Last

Most shower failures begin behind the tile, not at the surface. Every shower we build starts with a waterproofing system installed the way it was designed to be — completely and correctly

Shower Remodeling & Tile Installation — Chicago & Chicagoland

The shower is the most technically demanding zone in any bathroom renovation. It is exposed to daily moisture, temperature fluctuation, and the physical stress of water pressure — conditions that reveal the quality of the work beneath the surface long before they affect the surface itself. At Inno Decor Solutions, shower installation is where our expertise is most concentrated and most consequential. We apply professional-grade waterproof membranes, use precision leveling systems for flat, seamless tile work, and finish every corner and joint with high-performance silicone sealant. The result is a shower you can use with full confidence — and a surface that won't require premature repair because the fundamentals were done right from day one.

The Difference Between a Shower That Lasts and One That Fails

Most homeowners choose their shower tile — the color, the format, the finish. Fewer have visibility into what happens before the tile goes up. But that's where the quality of a shower installation is truly determined.

A shower that is improperly waterproofed allows moisture to penetrate through grout lines and tile joints, reach the substrate and framing behind the wall, and cause progressive structural damage that may not be visible on the surface for months or years. By the time a leak becomes obvious — staining on a ceiling below, soft spots in the floor, visible mold at the grout — the remediation required is far more extensive and expensive than the original installation would have been.

Our waterproofing process is a system, not a single product. We use high-performance sheet membranes or liquid-applied waterproof barriers depending on the specific conditions of your shower assembly. Seams are properly lapped. Corners are reinforced. The drain transition — one of the most common failure points — is addressed with the appropriate pre-slope and waterproof pan or membrane integration. We don't consider this phase complete until every potential entry point for water is sealed.

How We Build a Shower — Step by Step

1. Evaluation & Substrate Assessment

We begin every shower project with a detailed on-site assessment. Existing tile and backer are removed, and we evaluate the condition of the framing, substrate, and drain assembly. Any deficiencies — soft framing, inadequate backing, improper slope — are corrected before the waterproofing phase begins. Building on a compromised substrate produces a compromised result, regardless of the quality of materials applied on top.

2. Pre-Slope & Drain Integration

A properly sloped shower floor is essential for water to drain completely after each use. We establish the correct pre-slope in the mortar bed and integrate the drain assembly with the waterproof membrane to create a continuous, sealed system. This step is technically precise and often rushed by contractors focused on speed — we treat it as foundational.

3. Waterproof Membrane Application

All shower walls and floor surfaces receive a full application of high-performance waterproof membrane — either sheet membrane or liquid-applied, selected for the specific assembly. Corners, changes in plane, and penetrations receive additional reinforcement. This is not a cosmetic step. It is the structural barrier between your tile work and the framing of your home.

4. Tile Installation

With a fully prepared and waterproofed assembly, tile installation is a matter of precision and material expertise. We work with ceramic, porcelain, natural stone, marble, mosaic, and large-format tiles, and we match the installation technique to the material — appropriate thin-set selection, proper back-buttering for large format, and consistent joint spacing throughout. Our tile work is assessed for flatness and alignment before the thin-set cures.

5. Grouting & Silicone Sealing

Grouting in a shower is not a finishing touch — it is a functional seal. We grout with precision, ensuring complete joint fill and consistent joint depth. In shower applications, we recommend and install epoxy grout, which is non-porous, mold-resistant, and significantly more durable in wet environments than standard cement grout. All corners and transitions — where planes change and movement occurs — receive high-quality silicone sealant rather than grout, which would crack over time in those locations. This is the correct technical approach, and it's the one we always follow.

Shower Styles & Configurations We Specialize In

Our team has experience with the full range of shower configurations found in Chicago-area homes and renovation projects:

Walk-in showers — open-entry designs with linear or point drains

Alcove showers — three-wall configurations replacing tubs or existing showers

Bathtub-to-shower conversions — full removal of the tub and build-out of a custom shower

Curbless / barrier-free showers — fully accessible, zero-threshold designs requiring precise slope work

Shower niche and bench installation — built-in storage and seating integrated into the tile layout

Steam showers — fully enclosed, ceiling-waterproofed assemblies for residential steam systems

Tile Materials We Work With

The right tile for a shower balances aesthetics, slip resistance, and maintenance — and we help our clients make informed choices based on their specific conditions and preferences. We install:

Porcelain tile — dense, low-absorption, and highly durable; our most frequently recommended material for shower applications

Large-format porcelain — contemporary and seamless; demands precise installation and flat substrate preparation

Ceramic tile — cost-effective and versatile for wall applications

Natural stone (marble, travertine, slate) — distinctive and high-end; requires appropriate sealing and substrate considerations

Glass and mosaic tile — accent walls, niches, and decorative applications

Subway tile — timeless format available in ceramic, porcelain, and glazed stone
